A 27yr old gentleman came to MIOT in December 2015 with the compliant of not able to walk for the past 1yr. He is an IT professional and the only earning member of his family. 1yr back around, November 2014 he met with a road traffic accident, a drunken driver in a car, crashed against his bike from behind.

2 failed surgeries:

He was immediately rushed to a hospital nearby, where after a series of X-rays, he was diagnosed to have fracture of his left thigh bone. He was taken up for surgery. But even 3 months post surgery, Mr. Kamal had severe pain and was not able to put weight on the operated leg. He decided to get a second opinion so he visited another Multi-speciality hospital.

After Investigations, the Doctors at the second hospital told him that, the surgery done to him was not done properly and that his bone has not yet healed. They also told that he has to undergo the surgery again or else he cannot be cured completely.

Left with no option, Mr. Kamal accepted for the surgery. In June, he underwent his second surgery. Post his surgery, his pain had minimally reduced but as days passed by, he noticed that his left thigh was not in proper shape. It seemed bent. The doctors said, as the fracture heals, his bone will become straight. He waited for 5 months, but still the bend remained and he started experiencing pain episodes in the left thigh. The worst part was, because of the bend, his left leg became shorter than the right, which made him unable to walk.

Lost Hope:

Frustrated with his deformed leg, Mr. Kamal almost gave up on it. One of his friend told him about MIOT and asked him just to give it a try. With very little hope, Mr. Kamal came to MIOT. He was examined by the Trauma care specialist who explained the problem to him. The fracture alignment surgery from the first hospital was not satisfactory. The second surgery had connected the bony alignment, but inspite the efforts, the bone did not heal as expected and he ended up with deformity.

At MIOT:

The specialist here also explained that, he has to undergo another surgery. He gave Mr. Kamal, the full assurance that, after the surgery, he will definitely walk. Mr. Kamal accepted for the surgery. In Jan 2016, he was taken up for surgery. Initially all the dead bone in the fracture region were removed which left a huge void in the bone. The bone was reconstructed with bone graft and implant was fixed to hold the fractured bones in place.

Recovery:

From the next day post surgery, he was mobilized with the help of Physiotherapy. His Post-Operative period was uneventful. In 3 weeks time, Mr. Kamal was able to walk with crutches. In 3 months time, he started walking by himself. An X-ray taken during 6months review visit showed that his fracture has healed completely and he is all fit and fine. After 6 months of treatment at MIOT, he rejoined work back.
