Anecdote

Ms Nashila Bibi Sakhabuth , a 39 year old patient from Mauritius suffered from a severe headache. She then consulted an ophthalmologist thinking there might be some changes in the eye power and change of glasses. The ophthalmologist then concluded that there was no problem with her eyes. Later an in depth analysis of the Brain was performed through an MRI scan.

The Revelations

Much to her shock, the test reports revealed that she had Saccular Brain Aneurysms arising from two major Carotid arteries from her brain which supplies 80% of blood to the brain and other multiple aneurysms from other blood vessels. She was then suggested to visit MIOT, Chennai. It was also made sure that she was assisted with a stretcher during her flight travel to India.

Saccular Brain Aneurysm

Brain Aneurysm is a weakened blood vessel in the brain that accumulates blood and tends to bulge outward. These could rupture in the brain at any time causing various complications like stroke, paralysis, brain damage, coma and even death.

MIOT’s Hope

Initially, Ms Nashila thought it was delicate and difficult to treat the aneurysms. Upon reaching the MIOT hospital Chennai, MIOT wasted no time and performed all the necessary tests to assess Ms Nashila’s condition . MIOT’s multidisciplinary Neuro board comprising neurologists, neurosurgeons, neurovascular specialists, neuro intensivists, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, anaesthesiologists & neuro-rehabilitationists was formed who came up with conventional methods like MicroSurgical-Clipping, Endovascular Coiling, Placing a flow Diverter.
Evaluating the risks residing in these methods, MIOT’s Neuro board then came up with the Bypass treatment involving 4 stages. With this MIOT’s team executed a highly advanced Hybrid treatment Strategy – 5 Endovascular Procedures to save Ms Nashila from this life threatening brain condition.

Road to Recovery

The MIOT team then conveyed the Surgery plan to Ms Nashila including which complex aneurysm would be operated first. This made Ms Nashila feel very calm and comfortable during her first surgery. After a week of the first surgery and continuous monitoring, she was prepared for her second surgery to remove aneurysms on the other side. The second surgery also proved to be successful. Post surgery, Ms Nashila recuperated in the rehab center where all the necessary exercises and physiotherapy were performed to regain her mobility.

Ms Nashila’s Heartfelt Words

” I am happy that I came to MIOT. Today, I have life, I can Walk and I can Live normally like a normal person. No worries, No Issue – I mean, I’m stress free also. I can Go back to my Country, I can go back to Mauritius. “
