Mrs. Rehana Rohom, a 39-year-old mother, was diagnosed with a fibroid in a Mauritius hospital. She underwent surgery to remove both her fibroid and her uterus. As she continued with her life after the surgery, she was experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding and realised that she had no sensation or control over her urine. After medical investigations, she found out that there had been an accidental cut in her bladder during her surgery. She had to undergo a second surgery to repair her bladder. But this surgery did not help her as much as she had expected. Her urine was so out of control that she had to wear 5 to 6 diapers a day.

Despite her efforts, she continued to struggle with the condition, which impacted her daily activities. So, when Mrs. Rehana sought advanced care, the Mauritius government suggested she visit MIOT International, Chennai. Rehana’s visit to MIOT International was the turning point in her medical journey towards recovery.

Mrs. Rehana underwent a comprehensive evaluation as soon as she got to MIOT. The results of her tests revealed that there were more fistulas and that her previous surgeries had significantly damaged her body. Her family was astounded by how much it had affected her. MIOT’s multidisciplinary team of doctors from the Department of Urology was determined to restore her health and advised her to undergo surgery to repair the hole in her bladder.

The thought of having a third surgery was daunting for Mrs. Rehana, but the doctors’ reassurance put her at ease about going through with the surgery. MIOT doctors wanted her to be comfortable throughout the process and took thorough measures to make this surgery successful. When she was brought back to her ward, she couldn’t believe that surgery had been performed on her, as there were no scars or pain in her body. And just after two weeks of using a urinary catheter, she was able to regain total control over her bladder. She was able to resume her daily activities without any difficulty and felt like she had a new lease on life after the successful surgery.

Mrs. Rehana Rohom’s heartfelt words:

“I thought I would be wearing diapers for the rest of my life. I am satisfied that MIOT has given me a new life and I have no regrets.”
